Simplicity in nature and the concept of space are ongoing themes in Rachel’s work. Imagined and idealized settings have formed basis of her inspiration. Many of Rachel’s paintings focus on either subtly blended "skyscapes" juxtaposed with land and water or earthy backgrounds contrasted with fragments of a simplistic scene. With gradual transitions between tones of a natural palette, the overall effect of Rachel’s work is one which evokes a sense of calm and serenity.

Rachel’s working surfaces are textured with plaster not only to enhance the perception of depth in her paintings but to encourage the sense of touch. By sanding, washing and reworking some pieces, she is able to create subtle layers, suggestive of age and weathering by time and nature.

While Rachel’s paintings have often been described as reminiscent of the works of classic landscape artists, she strives to achieve a balance between traditional and contemporary.

Rachel is a self-taught artist who began her painting career in 2001. Her work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections and has been featured on the Home and Garden Television Network as well as in Canadian House and Home Magazine.
