Art by Marleen Provençal
A self-taught artist, Marleen Provençal was born in Sherbrooke in 1961. Although her talent for the visual arts was evident at an early age, it was only after completing studies in the arts and cinema, and years of work in theatre and contemporary dance, that she decided to become what she always dreamt of being: a painter. The detour has left its mark: light, space and movement are characteristic elements of her work. For Marleen, who approaches each piece with no preconceived notion of the final product, painting is an arena - or a stage - on which anything can occur.
Marleen has participated in a dozen solo and group shows. Her paintings are part of the Loto-Québec collection and numerous private collections in the United States, Europe and Canada, and have also been used as cover illustrations for several books published in Québec. She currently lives and works in Québec City.
